"Mare Nostrum" -- Most Delicious Spot !

by Roger & Rosana Jones
(San Miguel)

Sardinian Chef Guilia Alfio Maievi & his Mexican wife, Brenda, have recently graced our town with the opening of their humble new San Miguel restaurant "Mare Nostrum".

My family & some friends met them for the first time last week and were pleasantly blown away by this most unusual and delicious spot. We started with the fried calamari and shrimp salad, prepared in a most unusual fashion that we all loved. The assortment of homemade raviolis--wild mushroom, duck and spinach, prosciutto, pine nuts and cheese--caused us all to applaud the chef.

For desserts we tried a fried puff pastry stuffed with cheese and smothered with warm honey and a tiramasu that caused more applause and a proclamation that it should be called "Better-than-Sex Tiramasu." It was that good!!

Business was slow except for one other table. The people there told us they'd earlier announced that San Miguel de Allende would never have a good pizza place. Happy were they to proclaim that "Mare Nostrum" were the new owners of the title "Best Pizza in San Miguel." This was their third trip there and the place had only been open a week. The Pizza, that's what I'll try next !!

Please enjoy this new San Miguel restaurant and you'll also enjoy the very reasonable prices. You can find Mare Nostrum at Umaran #56. It's open Wednesday-Monday 1:00 to 11:00pm. Telephone (415) 152-7420

HORRIFIC Service from BRENDA- the owner NEW
by: Anonymous

I had been to this restaurant once before and had been pleased with the delicious pasta and standard service. I brought my friends to have pasta and unfortunately the owner, Brenda, was our server and I can honestly say- I have NEVER ever received such bad treatment/service anywhere in the world. Terrible service from Brenda- also very offensive. Since we had asked for bread 4 times and never received it, finally when she did bring it- she threw it on the table and were charged for it, on top of that.

Too bad the service is ERRATIC and to make things worse, that the owner, Brenda, is the one giving out such poor service.

Good food, but I will NEVER go back.

I just moved to SMA. On my first night, my brother and sister-in-law (who helped me with the move)and I ate here and returned on 3 days later.
The food is excellent! I live nearby on Canal and will be a regular.

Excellent Italian in SMdA NEW
by: Casa Aurora Borealis

One of the owners is Italian. This is the real deal. Delicious, we go every time we are in SMdA, and that is quite often. The menu suits all tastes, even kids! It is very small, and has quaint murals on the walls- not fancy by any stretch, but the food is the star. Also- because it is very small, it can fill up quickly. Run, do not walk to this gem.

Name Correction NEW
by: Anonymous

The owner's name is Giulio (not Giulia).

Other than that, I agree with everything this post has said. The food rocks!...and it won't break the bank.
